3 Potential Actors

Possible Actors

Since we are doing an R'n'B genre music video we automatically knew we had to use an ethnicity which was either black or mix raced. This was to follow the conventions of an R'n'B music video to make ours look as natural as possible however in 'Man Down' Rihanna's accent is quite strong therefore using a white person wouldn't look natural mouthing the words as the accent isn't stereotypical with that ethnicity.

Sara

Our first actor idea is Sara. Sara is half Indian which gives her the brown pigments within her skin. Sara has long black hair which will gave us the opportunity to experiment and try different styles of for different shots and has a very pretty face, which is a natural blank canvas to work one in terms of make-up. Despite being small Sara is a very confident girl which will be helpful when filming in public areas. In addition to this all Sara is a dancer is a numerous amount of styles which we could use to our benefit as we could have dancing shots within the music video. Even though Sara is confident she wouldn't be open into wearing clothes which are to exposed as she will feel uncomfortable which is a slight disappointment as fashion is such a manger inspiration for the target audience. Here is a front and side shot of Sara, her fashion is quite plain however this is due to her school uniform. Her natural costume is baggy, relax wear, where Sara is a dancer she doesn't really have much of a party wear however there are ways where different costumes could be used in order to give her a more unique dress sense. We then got Sara to do some poses, one including a chair to allow us to use different angles and a long shot pose with different arm lines, this is also allow use to get a good idea on a potential album covers.

Rihannon

Our second actor idea is Rihannon. Rihannon has elements of the Caribbean in her therefore she has the right ethnicity look. A massive element of Rihannon's appearance is her fashion sense. As you can see she is wearing a bright colours shirt, black trousers and Doc Martins, her 'Indie' style stands out, Rihannon also has short hair which is blonde and fluffy. Her image is very unique and interesting, this will allow us to use full advantage of her style to create an 'Indie' image, however she slightly subverts the female stereotype in her own way which isn't a problem however for our music video she might not be the right image. Also her availability is quite poor due to her working hours. We took photo's of Rihannon to get different perspectives of her in different angles and poses, as you can see Rihannon hasn't got that sassy posing look like Sara did, Rihannon's poses make her look cute and young which isn't the impression we want to give. Instead of a deep glare she has a cheeky smile and a has a jolly look on her face which doesn't make her look submissive which we want as we want to keep our audience as mass as we can creating a male gaze which we don't think Rihannon has.

 Chrissy

Our final actor idea is Chrissy. Chrissy has the ideal figure which is a massive benefit as if she was our model a lot of females would look up to her and become inspired by her figure and would motivate themselves in order to have the ideal figure. Chrissy's natural outfit varies between party and indie look there's no in between which Rihanna has. Chrissy has a very natural face however she covers it a lot with her hair . You can see from her head shots and modelling shots she is very photogenic and her poses are very natural. Chrissy however hasn't got a lot of confidence despite looking good behind a camera, which could be a problem when filming in public places. Also the availability off Chrissy is limited therefore finding a time when both us and she free my be tricky. Chrissy can dance however her main style is only hip hop, we have not yet decided what style of dance we want in our music video however is we chose Chrissy she will limit our free range of different ideas.

We have come to the conclusion that we are going to use Sara to symbolise as the actor of Rihanna. This is because she has the best canvas for us to work on in order to get the right Rihanna look. She is more available and has a larger range of looks in order to allow use to have a wide experiment range in order to create our music video. Sara is also quite a close friend therefore we know she's reliable. Even though we aren't using the other actors we may need a background cast therefore we would ask these girls to play a role within this area. We are going to transform Sara into our ideal Pop Star in order to have the right image for our music video.

My Record Logo

My Record Logo

I decided to use the name 'Orbit Record' for my record label. The word orbit symbolises the world and the Earth orbiting the Sun or Moon orbiting the Earth, showing the circle and mention of life, also foreshadowing the shape of a record as the are is orbits round a record player. I also used the word record as it is a record label company and also had a natural flow to the word orbit.

This is my first logo idea. I have followed the other R'n'B record label logos and stuck to a black and white canvas. The title of the record label is stood in the centre of the image in a clear black consistent font. There are then 2 circles which 'orbit' the title, this slight image links with the idea of the world and sharing as well as symbolising the word orbit. The inner circle is thicker than the outer circle, this was to create a more interesting composition, also the writing is quite thick therefore the thin line doesn't make the image look to bold.
This is my second idea for my record label logo. I've used an image of a record for my background, this was to symbolise the word 'record' within my logo title, this idea was inspired by 'Jive'. I think use the same font for the word 'orbit'. The word is curved within the record as if the word was orbiting the record therefore making it look slightly like a pun. The record is black and white which is very simple however by making the writing blue the adds colour as well as allow it to stand out a bit more. The colour blue symbolises the earth and water as well as purity and emotion which the lyrics in R'n'B music are. Looking at this logo and the logo above this logo doesn't look as if it'll fit in with other record label logos because it looks to amateurish and fake therefore so far I think the top image is more than likely to look more natural.

This is my final idea for my record logo. I followed the idea from my first logo in creating a boarder, this I found gave it a nicer finish and other record labels such as 'Discord Record' and 'Motown' do the same thing. For this idea I stuck to the black and white colour's as I felt it looked more professional and tidy. In terms of the writing I used two variations of the same font therefore making them look slightly different but still very similar. Roc Nation used different colours for each of their words therefore I put on my own twist and kept the colours the same by changed font for each of the words. This logo looks more modern compared to he other two above. The font of this logo creates a rock/ hip hop vibe therefore making it look more genre pacific.

With these 3 logo's above I have decided to use logo one for my final. This is because it look's older than the other logos and as if it could fit in with the others. This logo is plain but gets the name of the record label across, the 2 circles around the title create a neat shape and final logo. The black and white colour scheme is bold and clear. The second logo I feel is to cartoon like and looks quite childish and immature, the third image I like however looking at it now I feel the font looks to rock/ heavy metal like.

Record Label's

Record Labels

We have decided our song for our music video therefore we need to decide on a record label which will then produce our single. I started of by looking at Rihanna's record labels as she is the artist which we are being inspired from. Rihanna has two record labels 'Roc Nation' and 'Def Jam'.

Def Jam Recordings is an American Record label which was founded in 1983. It's a smaller independent record label from the conglomerate Universal Music. The genre focus for this record label is mostly R'n'B and Urban style music. Other artists which are on this label are artists such as  Kanye West, Big Sean and Iggy Azalea which are also hip hop/ R'n'B singers. The logo for the record label is very simple, there is very little colour and only one font is used however it's the sizing of certain letters within the words which gives it the formal logo look. The black writing against the white background allows the writing to stand out and the title show. There aren't any images used, in fact the logo is just the title of the record label in a different sixing of font and formation.

Roc Nation is another American Record label which was founded in 2008, therefore making this record label really fresh and current. Former rapper Jay Z created with record label in 2008, therefore making it a more independent record label and not being linked with any of the Big 3 record labels however has some calibrations with Sony Music. Artists such as Demi Lovato, J.Cole and Rita Ora are too part of this record label. The logo consists of the record labels name which is in an unusual font which makes the writing look as if it has ben stencilled on. The colours again are black writing upon a white background however the first word 'Roc' is in red. This adds colour to the logo as well as allowing the audience to focus on the word 'Roc' suggesting their music is up beat and slightly Roc based even though its not spelt 'Rock' is pronounced quite similar creating the rock up to beat appearance.

Jive is again an American Record label however this record label doesn't specify within genre. This record label signs any artists no matter what their chosen genre is. Founded in 1981 Jive is part of the Sony Music Entertainment which is one of the Big 3 record labels, which gives Jive a higher success rate. Chris Brown (R'n'B singer) is signed with this record label however Britney Spears (Pop singer) is also signed with this record label. The logo for this record label has more of an image. The name of the logo is still shown within the image however the background creates a shape of a diamond which has parallel blue lines going horizontal behind the image. This gives the image a create appeal and looks slightly more exciting however it still is very plain with only the use of 2 colours, blue and white.

Target Audience

Target Audience

We have decided to use a similar target audience to Rihanna which is female's aged between 15- 25. All ethnicities listen to Rihanna's music despite being within the R'n'B genre, this is due to the success rate of Rihanna, her singles become massive hits therefore end up making their way onto the top 40 pop charts.
Rihanna's fashion is very unique and she has been said to be a bit like a fashion guru therefore her fashion statements has a massive effect on her audience who pick some of her fashion choices as a trend. When deciding the costumes for our actor we will need to make sure her costume is very unique and has an almost 'Indie' appeal to it, this is so the audience recognise the fashion statements and would potentially pick them up.
Rihanna is a very independent young female who is a role model to her target audience. The courage and strength Rihanna has is shown within her music video's, this is demonstrated with strong movements ad confident body postures therefore our actor will need to portray this. Due to social media everything Rihanna say's or does is documented and delivered to her fans through various social networking sites, in our music video we could have a shot where our actor is on one of these social networking sites scrolling through to advertise and promote both the social networking site and build the artists fan base.
Teenagers and young adults stereotypically party and drink a lot therefore our actor could emphasis this by being at a party for dinking however would this be setting a bad influence? We could get our model to look like she's at a party however alcohol isn't used therefore setting a good example, though this could then make the artist look boring and lose fans. This would be another debatable theme when coming to planning the structure and shots of our music video.

Rn'B Representation

R'n'B Representations

I have presented conventions of R'n'B within a video, enjoy!
